“You cannot live in the present,
At least not in Wales”
This guiding verse from R.S. Thomas's poem "A Welsh Landscape" serves as my source of inspiration for the project, "The Mountains of Our Fathers." The project is shot on 4x5 Ilford film, exploring the slate landscape, communities and heritage of North Wales.
The aim is to delve into the relationship between past and present, documenting the slate mines, the heritage railways that once played a pivtol role in shaping the landscape, and the communities that embody the essence of Welsh identity.
The title, drawn from our national anthem, reflects the connection between the land and its people. It is to interpret the echoes of our ancestors, their struggles and stories, which continue to shape the lives of live here today.
