Hello! I’m Rhisiart [pronounced Richard—it’s the Welsh spelling!]. I’m a photographer based in South Wales. After spending much of my early 20s traveling, I’m now focusing on projects within the land of my fathers. I explore the landscapes, people, and culture of Wales, documenting stories that resonate with our collective Welsh identity.
Currently, I am focused on two major projects that hold deep personal significance. Collectively, this “The Land of Our Fathers”. The first part, titled “Valleys of Our Fathers” explores the nostalgia of the South Wales valleys, capturing the landscapes, characters, and resilience of the communities that define this historic area.
My second part of the project, “Mountains of Our Fathers”, is inspired by the evocative poems of R.S. Thomas and is set in North Wales, a region close to my heart. I have many fond memories of North Wales, especially the little steam engines that echo through the area. Inspired by the poem “A Welsh Landscape,” I aim to visually interpret the complex beauty and rugged spirit of this region.
Photography has been a passion of mine since childhood, when I first began experimenting with home movies and creating images that told stories. Though self-taught, my journey has led me to immerse myself in personal projects that reflect my love for the craft and my deep connection to the world around me.
